The way the Pure mattress line works is simple: there are two mattresses (Pure Core and Coco Core) and three covers (Dry, Smart and Hybrid). When you order one of the pure mattresses, you're actually ordering one base mattress and a cover to put over your mattress. Also its important to keep in mind all the covers have the purpose of protecting the mattress from accidents. All three covers do the same job, it's just a matter of personal preference on the touch and feel, and extra features of the covers.
The Dry cover is 100% waterproof and easy to wipe down, with a backing made of plastic (food-grade polyethylene), so it is completely impervious to water going through it. The surface of this cover is 100% Polyester. While it is non-crinkly, it still is not as soft to the touch as the Smart or Hybrid cover.
- Key Point: It's the cheapest and gets the job done.
The Smart cover is water-repellent, which means water will bead up on the surface for easy clean up, but will eventually soak through if there is a lot of water sitting there for a long time. The advantage is that this cover is breathable, which helps if your baby sleeps on her stomach and it also helps to ventilate the mattress which is a good safeguard against mildew and allergens. This cover is made of a mix of polyester and cotton.
- Key Point: It has a nicer feel than the Dry.
The Hybrid cover The inner layer is the same as the Dry cover, but has the organic cotton outer layer. Feels as nice as the Smart but is more expensive because it is organic cotton. That way, the mattress is completely protected from liquids, and the closest surface to baby is still 100% Organic Cotton.
- Key Point: An organic cotton material on top of the waterproof inner layer
